Privacy policy
Your memories stay yours.
Effective October 22, 2026
Zikra is a private photo album for couples, made by Abdullah Morsi in Houston, Texas ("Zikra", "we", "us"). This policy explains what Zikra collects, why, who can see it, and how to delete it.
The short version: your album is private to you and your partner. We don't show ads, we don't sell or rent your data, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, your first name, and your password (stored only as a secure hash by our database provider).
- Your album: the photos, short videos, voice notes, notes, titles, dates, places and ratings you add to memories, plus your plans, wishlist and other things you save in the app.
- Your couple's settings: things like your anniversary, city, color theme, monthly goal and date preferences.
- Location, only if you allow it: Zikra can tag a memory with where it happened (saved with that memory) and uses your location to suggest date ideas, places and weather near you. Location used for suggestions is not saved to your account.
- What you share outside your album: photos you add to date ideas, posts you share with couple friends, date ideas you post, hearts, and reports you file.
- Friends: the couples you connect with using a friend code, and couples you block.
- Technical basics: when the app talks to our service providers (for example to load a photo or download an app update), they receive standard information such as your IP address and device type. Zikra has no analytics or advertising tools.
How we use it
- To run Zikra: store your album, keep it in sync between you and your partner, and show your timeline, map, recaps and reminders.
- To suggest dates, places and weather near you.
- To keep shared spaces safe: what you share outside your album is checked automatically, and reports are reviewed by a person.
- To reply when you contact us.
We don't use your data for advertising, and we never sell it.
Who can see what
- Your album (memories, photos, videos, voice notes, notes, plans, wishlist): only you and your partner.
- Posts you share with couple friends: only the couples you have added as friends, and, if your partner is in Zikra with you, only after they OK it.
- Photos you add to date ideas, and date ideas you post: anyone using Zikra, once they pass a quick check.
- Your first names (as a couple) can appear next to things you share.
- The Zikra team can access data only when needed to keep the service running, review a report, or follow the law.
Service providers
Zikra relies on a few services to work. Each one gets only what it needs:
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Expo delivers app updates.
- OpenAI checks the photos and words you share outside your album (photos on date ideas, friend posts and shared ideas) for harmful content. Your private album is never sent. OpenAI says it does not use data sent through its API to train its models.
- Apple Maps finds places near you, on your phone.
- The U.S. National Weather Service (weather.gov) receives your approximate location to show the forecast.
- Wikimedia Commons hosts the photos in our date-idea library, and your phone loads them from there.
These providers may store and process data in the United States or other countries where they operate.
Notifications and Face ID
Reminders, like anniversaries and memories that resurface, are scheduled on your phone. We don't send marketing notifications. If you turn on the Face ID lock, your phone handles it, and Zikra never sees your face data.
Deleting your data
- Delete any memory, photo, post or idea at any time in the app.
- Delete your account in Us → Delete my account. Your account is deleted right away. If your partner still uses Zikra, your shared album stays with them. If you are the last one, your album, photos, videos and notes are deleted too.
- Unlinking from your partner gives each of you your own copy of your memories.
- Deleted data may stay in backups for up to 30 days before it is gone for good.
- You can also email us to ask for a copy of your data or for it to be deleted.
Children
Zikra is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has used Zikra, email us and we will delete the account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example California or the European Union), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your data, or to object to how we use it. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, we will also let you know in the app.
